It happened early in the morning, perhaps four or five o'clock. An expecting mother gave birth to a litter of three kittens, all healthy and mewing. The shelter that Marie, the new mother called home, was quick to find homes for the babies once they were old enough. At two months old, she was adopted by a Human named Leah. Leah was the owner of a local bookstore, and was ecstatic to finally adopt the kitten she had had her eye on for weeks. Athena, then called Dulcie, was at first too fearful to move. Her anxiety consumed her, and she had to be carried around. Often at night, Leah would read ancient stories and legends to her kitten, and Athena's favorites were the greek legends. The tales of strong heroes and mighty gods gave her enough courage to carry on.

It wasn't long after that when she first discovered the window. The view of the window was enchanting, and the curious kitten just had to explore it. She was five months old, and was surprised when she met cats in the trees. It was when they made fun of her name she decided to choose another one for her now frequent trips into the woods. Deciding on her favorite goddess from the legends, the newly named Athena began to spend more and more time away from home. Hours, days, weeks at a time. She shows no signs of stopping.
